Reading these two relaxation books is a great way to relax at home while learning something useful or imagining someone else's life. I recommend two books, as usual, one fiction and one non-fiction book. These books have been around for quite a while, so you should be able to find them in your local library or any bookstore.
Once you've read them, I'd love to hear what you think. You can use the book review form below to send me your comments.
My non-fiction book of the month for September 2009 is The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D.
I will be re-reading this book at least once a year for the next decade. Dr. Schwartz explains how to turn one's life around to achieve everything one wants in plain English with plenty of examples that drive the point home.
Amongst other things, he talks about how to defeat excusitis and stop blaming your health, your age, your education (or lack thereof) or your bad luck. He opened my eyes on many aspects of my life and my business that could be improved.
He talks about how to make your mind produce positive thoughts, how to become important, how to develop creative thinking, how to build confidence and overcome fear, how to win friends and much more.
Here is a quote from this book that I think most people could benefit from:
This book is by far the best non-fiction book I have read this year... Highly recommended for people of all backgrounds.
My fiction book of the month for September 2009 is At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks.
This best-selling author wrote the famous book The Notebook (also turned into a wonderful movie) and the book I recommend this month is a sequel to his True Believer.
I haven't read the first book, yet it was easy to get into the character's story.
The novel is about Jeremy Marsh, a New York scientific columnist who specializes in investigating paranormal activities and his new fiancée, Lexie. Bits and pieces of Jeremy's past life (as well as Lexie's) are intertwined in the story, which is mostly about Jeremy moving to a small town to follow Lexie, prepare for their upcoming wedding, buy a new house and get ready for their future baby.
Things are going fairly well until an anonymous email triggers a series of doubts about the identity of the baby's father as well as Lexie's faithfulness, which doesn't help Jeremy overcome his case of writer's block.
The novel contains a good balance of drama and it will probably make your eyes shed a tear or two. The book was easy to read and quite enjoyable.
