My fiction relaxation book of the month for June 2009 is Married to a Stranger: A Novel by Patricia MacDonald.
This thriller/mystery is about Dr. Emma Hollis, a psychologist who is soon to be married to David Webster. The novel starts a day before the wedding and gets into the worst possible nightmare ever imagined by a newlywed.
Without revealing too much, let's just say that Emma's life is in danger as well as the life of her unborn foetus.
But who is behind these violent crimes? Her new husband? One of her patients with psychological issues? Her step-father who may be cheating on her mom? Her boss?
Patricia MadDonald does an excellent job at pointing the reader in the wrong direction, many times over. This book will keep you wondering who is behind it all...
I highly recommend this book as a vacation book to read on a beach. Don't take it with you to a cabin in the woods... It may be a little too scary and too close to home! Buy Married to a Stranger from Amazon.
My non-fiction relaxation book of the month for June 2009 is Being Happy!, a handbook to greater confidence and security, by Andrew Matthews.
I chose this book based on a recommendation from a friend (I'm not depressed ;)! ) but I learned a lot of new concepts from this short book. Being Happy! also helped anchor some other basic ideas more deeply into my subconscious.
What is this book about? Andrew Matthews explains (with good humor) how to live a better life by changing the way we see life.
This concept isn't new, especially to those who have been reading my book recommendations over the past few months.
But Being Happy! is different is the approach taken and it may well be THE book that does it for you. It's simple to read and really enjoyable.
I particularly enjoyed the examples he gave about prosperity and how people like me subconsciously prevent money from reaching our pockets. It was truly enlightening....
It will also explain why you get stains on your brand new clothes, why people get in accidents with brand new cars and why you always get stuck at red traffic lights.
Be ready to laugh your way to a better life with Being Happy! - buy it from Amazon.
