Book of the Month

Here are my March 2007 picks for Book of the Month. Go ahead and sit down with these great reading selections. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. If you disagree with my selections or want to add your comments, feel free to use the form provided at the bottom of this page. I will personally review your comments and include them on this page for others to see.

Fiction Book of the Month

My pick for March 2007 is A Christmas Guest by Anne Perry. It is very different from my previous recommendations. I recommend this book of the month to those who like light reading that isn't too complicated.

This Victorian mystery has "Grandmama" for its main character. She almost made me want to close the book at first because she isn't a very likable character. Cold, stuck-up, selfish, and you can probably add plenty more adjectives, but I'm sure you get the idea. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she ends up going to some relatives' house for Christmas against her will. Once in that house, a second unexpected visitor shows up, Maude Barrington, a world traveller whose manners and personality aren't up to Grandmama's standards. I can't tell you more because it is a mystery, and I don't want to ruin it, but I will say that Grandmama does become more likable from this point on.

Non-Fiction Book of the Month

My non-fiction book of the month for March 2007 is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Managing Stress by Jeff Davidson. I try to give you useful advice on how to relax at home on this website, and you should have this book to help you manage stress at work. It contains an extensive section on workplace stress and what you can do about it in simple, direct terms...isn't this what the "complete idiot's guides" are all about?

This book of the month is very well written and although some sections are relevant to workplace stress only, other sections can also be applied to your life in general. Jeff Davidson touches on the symptoms of stress and the nature of stress. He has a very interesting perspective on how the world overpopulation affects stress on a global scale. He also provides you with ways to empower yourself and lots of relaxation techniques such as yoga, bubble baths, t'ai chi, etc. Highly recommended for everyone.
