My fiction recommendation for July 2010 is The Town That Came A-Courtin' by Ronda Rich.
Summer is here and this novel is light, entertaining and filled with romance. It's a perfect summer read for the beach!
The story revolves around Abby Houston, a 40-something divorcée from the South who went from obituary writer to famous author. Her life is perfect, except for the lack of romance, and her mother is kind enough to constantly remind her of that fact!
During her book tour, she kept her promise to go visit the bookstore in Bliss, Mississippi, and she soon realizes that this little town may have a lot to offer, including love.
My non-fiction book for July 2010 is Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard by Chip Heath and Dan Heath.
In this book filled with interesting anecdotes and examples, the authors show you how to achieve dramatic results when attempting to change various parts of your personal or professional life.
In essence, the book teaches you how to "direct the rider" (i.e., use your analytical self), "motivate the elephant" (i.e., get your emotional self involved to support the change) and "shape the path" (i.e., tweak your environment to ease the desired change).
I certainly learned a lot while reading this book and I believe the examples contained in the book will help you understand how to apply these concepts to any particular problem in your life.
