Your body uses sleep as a restorative process. Why not use this time to get beautiful in your sleep?
In 1969, Oswald determined that the brain and body can repair and restore themselves during the time we spend sleeping and resting. Without getting too technical, this has to do with protein being synthesized at a higher rate while we sleep.
Other studies have also determined that our skin behaves differently at night, and we can use this to our advantage and improve how we look.
We all know that our skin is bombarded with free radicals, pollutants, cigarette smoke and the sun's UV rays during the day, but what happens at night? Chronobiology studies have determined that our skin becomes slightly more permeable at night, which means that the ingredients included in your night creams can more easily be absorbed while you sleep.
Are you starting to see more and more fine lines around your eyes and mouth? Join the increasingly significant group of women who get more beautiful at night through the use of rejuvenation lotions. From January to June 2009, the NPD Group estimated that $43 million were spent on nighttime facial moisturizers!
How can you ensure nighttime treatments can help you get beautiful in your sleep?
To start, before going to bed, make sure to clean your face and remove all make-up, sunscreen, etc. By doing so, your nighttime treatments are then applied directly to your skin and don't have to compete with other products.
Talk to your dermatologist or discuss your specific needs with the consultant at the store to ensure you are using the best nighttime skin treatments and lotions for your needs or try these home-made facial treatments.
Like skin, hair is also bombarded with pollutants, free radicals and UV rays, but it also suffers from over heating (dryers, irons), chemical treatments (coloring, highlights, perms), not to mention deficiencies in our diet that could affect your hair's strength.
You can treat your hair a few hours before bed or even leave certain products in your hair over night to improve its appearance, reduce the likelihood of breakage, dandruff, shedding, etc.
You've probably heard of deep conditioning treatments for hair. You can purchase those from your local pharmacy or make your own. For example, you can warm up coconut oil (solid at room temperature) and apply it to wet hair. Read more on aromatherapy hair and scalp massage treatments.
At the end of the day, the best thing you can do for your hair is use natural hair treatments whenever possible, and avoid chemical products and over heating your hair.
Did you know that keeping your hair up in a bun or even braiding your hair can help protect the ends from damage and breakage? Leaving your hair loose and fully exposed to the environment results in the ends being constantly exposed to the wind, which makes it easier for moisture to leave your hair.
It may be time to reconsider a new hair-do!
