![]() | Hi! My name is Caroline Bégin. A friend convinced me to build my own website with the help of Site Build It!, a service that he has been using since 2003. This About Me page will tell you how I came to be the writer and webmaster for this Relaxation at Home site and a few more sites that I will mention later. If you have any questions about my experience, feel free to contact me. My friend has a very useful website about weather called Stuff in the Air and the idea of coming up with something like his site without any computer programming or HTML skills made me feel inadequate (to say the least). Back in 2006, I didn't have any experience at all when it came to creating a website, but because of Site Build It's money-back guarantee, I decided to give it a try. |

My goal: To earn enough money to be able to control my life instead of having money (or lack thereof) control me. I have a few travel plans in mind and an unfinished novel to work on.
Unfortunately, working full-time as an environmental consultant in Calgary, Canada doesn't give me enough time to do what I really want in life, so this is why I'm ready to transform my life with Site Build It! (SBI!).
Life is looking better by the day! I've already quit my job and I'm working from home as a freelance writer while improving and maintaining my websites.
August 2006: My friend Barry kept dropping hints about how he was working toward his retirement. He's not 40 yet... He gave me an overview of what he was doing and provided me with a copy of the Affiliate Master's Course available for free on the Site Build It! site.
His main point, which took quite a while to sink in, is that I didn't need to have anything to sell to make money. By creating great content, advertisers would give ME money!
How so?
I asked him the same question. The money would come from commissions, clicks, leads, etc. All I had to do was select a topic that I felt passionate about and make useful information available to all. Google Adsense is probably one of the most popular affiliate programs out there.
It doesn't cost you anything and they do all the hard-work of finding advertisers that are related to the content of your website.

September 2006: I attempted to find a theme concept and keywords using the time consuming but free option suggested in the documentation my friend had given me.... Time consuming is an understatement. If you don't have to work but have 24 hours per day to spend looking for supply and demand for specific words, then you might be interested in doing all of this work.
October 2, 2006: After many attempts at finding a decent concept idea, I finally decided to spend a little money and get the Site Build It! tools.
October 6, 2006: My home page was created. What a great feeling that was...
October 31, 2006: In about a month, I created 34 pages. I sometimes had lazy days where I opted to watch television, but I also managed to get 5 pages done on a rainy Sunday. On average, I wrote 1 or 2 pages each evening.
November 4, 2006: Perhaps writing so many pages so fast was the main reason for the disappointing results at first. I kept checking my traffic stats, and how my pages were doing on the various search engines, and I got to say that they weren't doing too good. (But that wasn't unexpected... Site Build It! had told me that I should expect that... at first). I joined the free link exchange program to try and generate a bit more traffic. Lots of good sites out there...
November 11, 2006: I just checked my stats. They improved. Lots of pages have been spidered and listed. One link that was created through Site Build It! link exchange seems to bring in a few people, that's good. I finally understand what an RSS feed is, so I set it up as well as a newsletter. I need to keep adding content, but I also need to get more traffic. Time to focus on directory submissions.
December 2, 2006: I did it... I spent an entire Sunday submitting my URL to several free directories and I just submitted my 50th content page.
February 7, 2007: Well, time flies. I have been too busy to write as many pages as I wanted to, but I have just reached 75 pages. I started monetizing and traffic is slowly building up. Stats are also improving. And yeah, I almost forgot... I got rid of my PC and bought a Mac. Life is great.

March 9, 2007: I have just reached 100 pages. What a great feeling. My visitor count keeps increasing without me spending too much time at it. The links I exchanged a few months ago seem to be working!
June 16, 2007: Summer is already here! Only one season to go before my first year with Site Build It! comes to an end. My full-time job as an environmental consultant has been keeping me busy, so my website is struggling to make it past the hump at this point in time. However, the good news is that Ask Jeeves has listed my home page. Slowly but surely my traffic is increasing. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to quit my day job next year... all thanks to Site Build It!
July 16, 2008: Well, it's been over a year since my last entry and I managed to quit my full-time job and work from home instead. No, SBI isn't providing me with enough income from my affiliate programs just yet, but the income has definitely improved. I pay the bills by working as a freelance writer, webmaster and translator and I keep building new pages in my spare time. I've also started a second website using SBI!. This second site is already doing better than this first site as I have learned from my mistakes... Check it out at Best Fondue.com.
June 21, 2009: Once again, it's been almost a year since my last entry, but my freelance writer, webmaster and translator career is keeping me busy. I now receive regular affiliate checks from Amazon, Commission Junction and LinkShare. SBI! is working great for me! I also started a third SBI! site called Perfect-Romantic-Ideas.com. My HTML skills have improved tremendously since I started this whole adventure almost three years ago.
December 31, 2009: My Google Adsense and Amazon income is amazing! I can now see the snowball effect... My daily website income is equivalent to what I used to make during a great week with my websites... Thanks SBI! Can't believe the world is technically in a recession right now...
December 12, 2010: I have been very busy over the past year and I didn't have much time to add new pages to the site but my income keeps increasing! I'm glad I did all this work a few years ago. The residual income keeps coming in!
December 8, 2011: Well, another year has come and gone. My 3 SBI! sites are still up and running. I've just finished the redesign of the romantic site and fondue site. This relaxation-at-home site will get its facelift in the new year. It can be a lot of work to go back and update every single page that was created over the last 5 and a half years! Can't believe it's been this long already!
I've also gone through all of my ads and changed any Canadian Amazon ads to US Amazon ads. I'm Canadian, so I had initially chosen to post Canadian Amazon products, but it turns out that most of my visitors are American! So... it was a bit of work, but it should prove worthwhile in the long run.
If you have a look at my other sites, you'll notice that my fondue site is by far the most popular. I currently have 243 Facebook fans on it, and the number keeps growing. I once again haven't had much time to add new content to my sites, but my income keeps increasing every year. Still can't bring myself to creating Facebook pages and Twitter accounts for each of my sites but who knows what the future will bring...?
If you're reading this, would you mind "liking" my site? I'm really grateful for the 45 fans I currently have, but I would love to get a few more! Please click on the Facebook button at the top of the right column.
Traffic to this site has unfortunately dropped significantly with the October and November Panda updates, so I will have to focus on creating more content for it in 2012, and hopefully regain some of the lost traffic. The fondue site has more than covered any of my lost relaxation advertising income, so all is good. ;) 2012 will have brought in even more money than 2011.
Still LOVE getting my Google Adsense and Amazon deposits into my account every month! I do get checks from Commission Junction, Linkshare and ShareASale every now and then, but nothing compares to Google and Amazon!
I'm sure glad I took that leap of faith.
It was all worth it!
I'll do my best to keep you posted on my progress toward achieving the lifestyle of my dreams. Are you ready to live your dream and have SBI help you out? Check out this great video about SBI!
I use and truly love SBI! I recommend it because it works. Yes, I earn a commission if you click on one of the SBI! links shown on this site (and decide to use it too). The way I see it, it's a nice bonus for telling you the truth and helping you change your life by building a successful online business. I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't successfully use it myself.
