Hi
Welcome to spring! I hope the weather is looking great in your neck of the woods. Here in Calgary, it still feels like winter with our snowy weather but I'm sure sunshine and warm temperatures are just around the corner.
We recently lost an hour of sleep on March 13th, so I thought it would be good timing to discuss what you can do to improve your sleep patterns and avoid insomnia.
Five Tips to Sleep Better Tonight
1- Avoid watching the news or other television shows that may contain disturbing images or cliffhangers that will make your imagination run wild with ideas.
2- Exercise during the day to ensure your body is physically tired at night, but you shouldn't exercise within 3 hours of going to bed.
3- If you have trouble falling asleep almost every night, you may want to consider taking natural remedies such as Valerian root.
Learn more about valerian and its possible side effects.
4- Eliminate as many electronic devices as possible from your bedroom. Many of them emit light, sounds and/or electromagnetic fields that impact your ability to sleep. Most people still need an alarm clock, so keep it in your bedroom but turn the display away from you and try to put it as far away as possible to minimize its effects.
5- Create a sleep time ritual. Include activities such as taking a bath, reading a book, receiving a massage from your partner, etc. Stick to a regular schedule for going to bed and getting up, even on weekends.
