Relaxation-at-Home newsletter, Issue #023 -- Relaxation Tips for Mother's Day
May 08, 2009
Hi

In this month's newsletter, I'm going to share some relaxation tips that you can share with all mothers around you. Mother's Day is on Sunday, so make sure to drop that card in the mailbox or give her a call on the 10th. You'll also find tips to improve your immune system and avoid catching the swine flu or H1N1 flu.

As you may have noticed, Relaxation-at-Home is getting a facelift. I apologize for the mix of old and new pages but it is a time-consuming task that I hope to complete by the end of May. Rest assured that the page addresses will not change so it won't affect your bookmarks.

Home Spa for You and Your Mom

Is your mom looking a little tired? Invite her to your home for a refreshing spa evening that won't break the bank. Create a soothing facial with real whole-egg mayonnaise and place two black tea bags (previously soaked in warm water) over your eyes. Leave the mask and the tea bags on for twenty minutes while listening to some nice background music.... You can also use these 20 minutes to catch up on what your mom has been up to!

Aromatherapy to Fight the Flu

Essential oils not only improve the scent of a room, they can also provide benefits to your health. You can try the following oils:

  • Ginger. This spice can help you fight off the flu. Mix a few drops of ginger oil to your carrier oil and massage the mixture into the chest. You can also add a few drops of ginger oil to your bath water or you can inhale it.

  • Cedarwood. This oil comes from juniper and aboriginal people use it to treat respiratory infections. Inhale the vapours and it should ease cold and flu symptoms such as coughing.
*Pregnant women should avoid this essential oil.

  • Peppermint. This cool and refreshing herb can help you fight fevers and respiratory infections. Add one or two drops to your bath water.
*Small children should avoid contact with this oil and make sure to wash your hands if you touch pure essential oil.

  • Cypress. This oil will remind you of the forest and it should help relieve throat and respiratory symptoms when you place a few drops in an infuser.
*Some people may be allergic to this oil and you shouldn't use it if you have high blood pressure.

  • Eucalyptus. Vicks VapoRub uses this key ingredient, so you will recognize the scent. Mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your carrier oil and massage the mixture into the chest.
*NEVER ingest this oil as it is very toxic.
